Updated June 2026
Mark Twain writes in a plain-spoken American voice full of humour and everyday speech. His narrators often talk straight to you, which makes the English feel close and natural — though it's worth knowing he writes regional dialect for some characters' voices before you start. He's a great window into American English and nineteenth-century life along the Mississippi.
