Reading Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in English
Best for: B1–B2 (Intermediate–Upper intermediate), with read-along support
Reading it at your level: B1B2
Huck tells his own story in his own voice — informal, ungrammatical, and completely alive. Floating down the Mississippi River on a raft with the runaway slave Jim, he faces one dangerous situation after another and thinks his way through each one. The dialect takes a little getting used to, but the first-person narration is vivid and the chapters are short enough to read one at a time.
What you'll practise
- First-person past simple narration throughout the whole novel
- American dialect and non-standard grammar as character voice
