Privacy policy
Plain language, no surprises. This explains exactly what we store, why, and how to remove it.
Last updated 14 June 2026.
What we collect
- Your account identity. When you sign in, we store the email address you use, or — if you sign in with Google — the basic profile Google shares (your email and name). That is only used to recognise your account.
- A sign-in session. After you sign in we set one secure, HTTP-only cookie so you stay signed in. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
- Your library. We record which books you have unlocked so the read-along opens for you. We do not sell or share this.
- Sign-in codes. Email one-time codes are stored briefly to verify it is you, then expire.
- Anonymous usage analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are popular and how visitors find the site. It sets analytics cookies and collects usage data such as the pages you view, approximate location, and device type — never your name or which books you read. It is never used for advertising. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
What we do not do
- No payment details are collected — the companion is currently granted manually, with no payment processor.
- No advertising trackers, and your activity is never used to target ads — our only analytics is the privacy-respecting usage measurement described above.
- No selling or renting of your data to anyone.
Where it lives
Your data is stored in our own database and file storage to run the service. Narration and word audio are pre-generated files served to you; playing them does not send your identity to any third party.
Your choices
You can sign out at any time from your account, which ends that session. To delete your account and the data tied to it, contact us and we will remove it.
Children
The companion is a general-audience reading tool built around public-domain classic literature. It is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date above. Continuing to use the companion after a change means you accept the updated policy.
