Pygmalion
A phonetics professor bets he can pass a flower girl off as a duchess — the play behind My Fair Lady.
Reading Pygmalion in English
Best for: B1–B2 (Intermediate–Upper intermediate), with read-along support
Reading it at your level: B1B2
Shaw's play is unusually good for language learners because it is literally about accents and pronunciation. Professor Higgins hears Eliza Doolittle speaking Cockney English on a London street and bets he can make her sound like a lady. Much of the dialogue contrasts formal and informal registers side by side, so you can hear — and see — the difference as you read along.
